My first memories of sewing are of sitting on my mother’s sewing table helping her by turning the handle to her hand sewing machine in Africa where I was born and brought up. I then learnt to sew on her hand machine and by the age of seven was sewing simple dresses with her guidance. I also loved our trips to the fabulous fabric shop to choose our next lot of fabrics to sew.
I sewed on and off through my teenage years on by then an electric machine and when I moved to the UK the first thing my mother and I bought was a new sewing machine! Life took over until my daughters started dancing classes and needed ballet costumes for their ballet shows. Again life took over until a few years ago when I have just rediscovered my absolute love for sewing and decided the time had come to help other people discover the love of sewing your own clothes or just how satisfying it is creating on a sewing machine.
